Victoria.—Crushing on behnlf of this company will probably be commenced early next week. There is nothing new to report from the workings in the mine.

Eaqlehawk (Tararu).—No, 1 reef has now opened out to about two feet in thickness, and carries excellent mineral indications. Good progress is being made with the drive towards f<o. 3 reef, which body is oxpectod to be intersected in a few more feet of driving. Nonpareil.—Tight country still prevails in the crosscut going towards the Wade reef, it being of a diorite character, but notwithstanding this fact some very nice mineral veins have lately been pissed through. The reef sought for, however, cannot now bo far away according to its position and underlie in the upper workings, and it is quite probable th.it when it is intersected it will be found to carry a section of irood sandstone country on both its Walls. Good prospects continue to be met with in the western drive upon the Liverpool roof, strong colours of gold having beon seen right up to the last breaking down. It is now somewhat reduced in size to what it was a fow days ago, being now hoc more than a foot in thick noes. There are about 20 loads of quartz in tho paddock at surface, but as yet no arrangements have been made as regards having a crushing to test its value. Mahaua Roval (Tapu).— The reef vvhiih is being operated upon in tho Royal section of this property is again assuming its usual siaj in both the northern and southern drives, especially a» regards the latter point. Here the reof is looking most promising and shows colours of gold protty freely, whilst it i* anticipated that still further improvements will shortly be met with. Tho reason for this assumption may be explained from the fact thai when tho crosscut was first commenced which led to tho opening up of tho lovol In which operations are now being conducted, a reef was mot with which produced excellent proapects of gold, but no further work was done upon it with tho exception of passing through it, owing to its striking off into the country on the south side of tho crosscut. According to tho courso this latter reef is taking, it is ostimated that it will junction with the Royal reef at a point about 50 feet ahead of the present face in the south drive, and as both bodies aro pold-bearing, it ia considorod bhab their association together will have a beneficial effect upon the ore, and perhaps lead to a good run of gold being met with. Furthermore, the advancement of the southern drive upon the Royal reef is proceeding in tho direction of the Tapu Fluke section of tho Company's property, and in this last-mentioned section very fair results were obtained under the management of the Tapu Fluke Company, but the latter's modo of development, together with the want of efficient machinery, prevented tho operations from turning out aa successful as would otherwise have probably been the case. However, it is now anticipated that tho present level will more fully and systematically test the seotion ot ground mentioned, and that the chances of success aro also greater. Paeroa, Friday. Ravenswood.—A largo stuff of men are now ongaged on thie Company's property. Houso* for the mon, as well as offices and assay-rooms aro in course of erection preparatory to the commencement of development works on an extensive scale. Waitkkadri Union.—Two crosscuts aro boing pushed ahead on the Company's property, one being driven on (the eastern side of tho western section, and the other on the I'J.M.C. portion. In the latter adit it is anticipated that a largo lorie unearthed at the surface will bo intorsected in about 20 feot more driving. Tho low level is also being rigorously pushedlaboad, while about 80 or 90 chains of road abovo the Grace Darling have been completed. Ho tho new rocK-driltini! plant on its way out from San Francisco wilt be able to bo convoyed to tho site without any difficulty. Matters in connection with the mine are in a very activo state, and quite a large number of men are employed cutting timber ready for tho mine and building pui poses. HAURAKI NORTH. RESULT OF CRUSHING. Yesterday Mr. D. G. iMacDunald posted the following ;—Hauraki North; 105 tons of general ore (including picked stone) treated by the Robinson patent ore crusher have yielded 59Soz ainalgum." A later telegram stated that this gave 1770z 17dwts retorted gold which at the rate of £2 16s 6d would give a value of a little over £500. This it is stated will give a very considerable margin ot profit. ORIENTAL G.M. CO.

At an extraordinary general meeting of tho shareholders in the Oriental Gold Mining Company hold yostorday at tho office of Mr. Franz Soherff, manager, a resolution was passed empowering the directors to sell and dispose of the whole of the property of the Company to the Al Gold Mining Company (no liability) for shares in thu said Company, and on suoh other terms and conditions as tho Raid directors shall think fit. IMPORTANT MINING DECISION.

Coromandel, Friday. At the Warden's Court to-day there were three applications for the New Triumph ground, C. W. Skrine, Henry Whiting, »nd Charles Maofarlane. The case had been argued last Court day. The question at issue was whether, when a license was isaued_ and thft licensee neglected to take it up within the 30 days allowed, the laud became ipso facto again open for application, or only until the license was cancelled by the Warden as directed by the Mining Act. Mr. Parr, for Charles MoFarlane, argued that the land was not open till the old license was cancelled. Messrs. lkume and Jackson Palmer, for Whiting, contended that the license lapsed when the 30 days expired, aud it was not necessary to wait till tho Warden cancelled the grant before again marking out. His Worship said the matter was one which came up every day and afiected the whole district. He had expressed a strong opinion, but on consideration he thought he must hold Mr, Parr's contention to be correct, fie was not free from doubt, but as the language of the Act was so strong he was compelled to give it the construction that the Warden must cancel a license before a claim was again open for mining. It was a proper question for the Supreme Court. He allowed McFarlane's objection, with £4 4s costs, and dismissed Whiting's application. Sir Wm. Wnstenoys said there would probably be an appeal. -
