WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.

[by telegbaph,— correspondent.] Wellington, Thursday. HOMEWARD BOUND. I met Sir John Hall this morning in Parliament Grounds. He goes home in the Gothic with Lady Hall, who is in very delicate health. There is no political significance connected with his journey to Europe. THE BALLANCE STATUE. The unveiling of the statue of the late Mr. Balance will take place on Tuesday next. The Memorial Committee met last night and resolved upon a programme. The Premier is to perform the ceremony. SHIPPING OP SEAMEN. A deputation of the Seamen's Union recently waited upon the Minister of Marine to recommend that an officer should be appointed in each of the four large ports to superintend the shipping of seamen. The Minister of Marine (Mr. Hall-Jones) has assented to this recommendation.

THE WARD FARMERS ASSOCIATION. Messrs. Hall Bros., solicitors, of Livercargill, acting on behalf of several contributors in the J. G. Word Farmers' Association (Ltd.), have made application for the examination of the Hon. J. G. Ward (lately chairman of directors of the company), Mr. John Fisher (lately manager of the company), Mr, Robert Albert Anderson (lately secretary of the company), Mr. J. Ewart Hannah (lately auditor of tho company), Mr. William Watson (president of the Bank of New Zealand), and Mr. George Atkinson Birch (lately manager of the Colonial Bank at Invercargill). The application has been granted, and the examination will take place in the Supremo Court, Dunedin, tomorrow. WELLINGTON OLD PEOPLE'S REFUGE. Mr. Byre Kenny has been appointed by the Government Commissioner to investigate the complaints of certain of the inmates against the matron. LAND PURCHASE DEPARTMENT. The Government have purchased 13,900 acres of tho Manawakitoke Block, in the Danovirke district; also 900 acres in the Tiriti Block in tho same district. MINING BUREAU. Mr. P. Galvin has entered upon his duties as secretary of the Mining Bureau, which the Government has decided to establish.
