(.'hristchurch, Tuesday. At the Women's Council this afternoon Mrs, Louisa Blake read a paper on "Old Ago Pensions," advocating pensions for all over 65, irrespective of class or wealth. The methods for raising the money, suggoated were : Income tax, land tax, and reserves of land. A resolution in favour of a universal system of old age pensions was Carrie J by 11 to 4. On the motion of Mrs. Sheppard, a resolution expressing to Sir John Hall on his departure for England grateful romembrance of his efforts on behalf of women's suffrage was carried unanimously. In the evening a resolution of tho committee afliuning the necessity of refuting Lady titout's prot' i against the action of the executive, and averting that they had in no eonse failed in their duty, was confirmed unanimously. Mrs. Bullock's motion thab district court judges and stipendiary magistrates should be placed in tho same position as judges of the higher courts in respect to tenure of office and fixity of salary was negatived by six to one.

Mrs. Hendre read a paper oq "Equal Pay for Equal Work," pointing out thac it was only just that womon should receive tho samo pay as men when they did tho same work, and did it as well. She suggested combination among the women to raise the standard of women's work, It was unanimously resolved that the Council was of opinion that in all callings whore men and women are engaged in the same work an equal wago should be paid for equal work.
