THE BRUNNER BELIEF FUND.
The final meeting of the Bruuner Conference was held at Wellington on Wednesday afternoon, the 30th of Sept. It was announced that the total amount in hand was £30,924, added to which there will be £1200 coming from Melbourne, and £250 of accruod interest on the £30,024, the total being £32,954. A table prepared by the Public Trustee, under which widows are to receive 12s a week for 1G years, with 4s a week for each child, until he or alio attains the age of 16 years, was approved. The Premier stated ho had received a telegram from the Mayor of Bruunetton thab a month's payments were now due, and authority was given for the payment of the amount required. A petition was received from ten parents, whose sons had been killed in the disaster, asking thab some allowance should be made them from the fund, more particularly as the fund is larger than was anticipated. The Premier urged that something should be done in the matter, and the Conference decided that the Public Trustee should make enquiries with a view to giving a lump sum to each of tho petitioners. lb was decided that the sum of £300 should be set aside as a contingency fund, and will nob be absorbod by the tabulated scheme. lb was resolved that the Public Trustee give his immediate attention to the question of affording relief to some of the survivors who are harassed by pressing liabilities, Messrs. T. Bland and J. Bishop, both of Brunnorton, were added to the Adviosry Board. Tho Conference then adjourned.
