EDUCATION STATISTICS.
The education statistics for the year ending December 31 last, for the colony, show that 129,858 children attended the public schools, being an increase of 2558 over the previous year. The average attendance was 81*4. Among the pupils wore 1894 native children, exclusive of those attending the native schools. Tho number of public schools Is 1464, an increase of 54. Teachers and pupil teaohers aggregate 3386, of whom 2114 are female, The total income of the Education Boards was £487,943, an increase of. £22,000, There are 09 nativo village schools, with 120 teaohers and 2675 pupils. The numbor of children on the books of the industrial schools is 1545, a decrease of 10. Of these 416 are boarded oat, and 560 are out service. During the year the Government paid lor 21. pupils at the School for the Blind,
