THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS

Press Aisoclation.— Telegraph.—Copjrigtit. London, May 13. Jones and MoKibbin opened the bowling for the Australians, and fast ones from the former thrice struok Grace in the ribs. In the first over the veteran batted brilliantly, and scored 50 in half-nn-hour. With the score at 58 Jones changed ends, and with his first ball dismissed Jaokson. Then he got set, and was not checked until Ranjitsinhji appeared at the wickets. He batted faultlessly* his cutting, driving, and pulling being very fine. In one over he scored 13, but was eventually disposed of by Jones, who made a magnificent one-handed catoh in long field. (i , ' Lilley's battintr was very stylish. He, too, was dismissed with a one-handed catch. Altogether the fielding of the Australians was excellent, and Jones's pace created an impression. Hearn and Mold began bowline in the second innings, and the latter was relieved with the score at 49. The Australians have lost 7 wickets for 173. Darling scored 35. The batting of the team was only moderate until Trott and Hill became associated, when a good stand was made. Frequeut changes were made in the bowling, ana a separation was not effected until Hill placed one on to his wioket. Trott is not out with 47. The Sheffield Eleven's first innings dosed for 194 (not 190). The attendance at the third day's play was good, and the weather was splendid, but the wicket was fiery.
