WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL

[US' TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Tuesday. The monthly meeting of the Waipa County Council was held at Ohaupo to-day. Present: Messrs. Atkinson (chairman), Kusabs, Teasdale, Viekers, Manders, Harris, Smith, Allen, and Finch. The engineer reported that he had inspected the culvert on Frankton Road, near Jolly's, and found that it answered all the purposes required of it by the Council. He reported that he had inspected the Koromahi bridge, but had nothing to add to his former report The structure had been patched up from time to - time. He recommended that the ploughing on Papesch's road be stopped for the winter, but that several small repairs be effected. The claying on the Rotorangi Swamp Road had been stopped, as other portions of the road over which the contractors worked were being cat up. Some repairs would be necessary to keep the road open during the winter months. The contractors were willing to go on with the work in the spring, and the Engineer recommended that they be allowed to do so. Several other works of a less important character were also dealt with. The various recommendations of the Engineer were adopted by the Council, and ffith the concurrence of the member for the Newcastle riding, Mr. Harris, the work of re-building the Koromahi Bridge was deferred till the spring. An application for a portion of the hospital and charitable aid subsidy was made by the Board's secretary. The assessment of the county for the year is £249 4s. It was resolvedi to forward £50 as a first instalment. In reply to an application by E. H. Aubin, it was agreed to determine his lease of the Government paddock, Alexandra, on condition that he paid £3 towards the .cost of removing the furze on the same. Mr,. Cheeseman, secretary of the Acclimatisation Society, wrote intimating that the Society was sending 1000 young trout for liberation in the upper waters of the Puniu river, and asking that the Council make arrangements to meet and assist the curator, Mr. Small, on a day to be fixed. The matter was left in the hands of Messrs. Teasdale, Smith, and Finch. Mr. Saulbrey wrote calling attention to a dangerous portion of road at what is known as the first cutting on the road between Ngaruawahia and Stone's corner. After rain the river frequently covered it, with rnuoh danger to life and inconvenience to traffic. After some discussion it was agreed that it would not be advisable to touch the road at this season of the year, and the work was held over till the spring. Mr. Elmsley, Kihikitii, wrote in answer to a demand for license fees that he had already paid the money to the Town Board. It was agreed to defer consideration of the inaWar until next meeting, in order to determine the legal position of the Council. Complain were made by many ratepayers that their names had been placed on the defaulters' list, whereas no demand had been made for the rate. Some discussion ensued, and the clerk was instructed to issue the notices at once. The Chairman announced that the Hamilton Borough Council had issued a summons against the Council for the recovery of £190, tne amount of auctioneers' fees for some years past. A number of accounts were passed tor payment, and some other items of | routine business were dealt with.
