Owing to certain difficulties which have arisen in the Otira Gorge works, the engineer reporting that the men cannot earn current wages, the Government have determined to pay higher wages and to carry out the suggestion of the engineer in charge.

Ib is stated that the Hon. Mr. Rolleston offers himself for olection. Mr. Sutherland, chairman of tho Waitaki County Council, it is reported, will stand for that district.
