ATHLETIC SPORTS.

CRICKET. AUCKLAND PUBLICANS AND BREWERS V. BOMBAY.

Availing themselves of the statutory halfholiday, " the trade" journeyed to Bombay yesterday to try conclusions with the local knights of the willow, andsucceeded in winning somewhat comfortably. Bombay, batting first, made a first-rate start with Ford and Elliott, the former contributing-,11, and the latter/21 not out (carrying his bat right through the innings). The remainder, however, only managed to add 10 to the total of 43, to top which cost the Publicans' team five wickets, the letter's total finally resting at 76, to which S. McPherson 21, Stone 14, Quiulan 13 (not out), and Lundon 11, contributed mostly. For the losers, Cornthwaite aud Evans bowleil very successfully, whilst Stone performed with disastrous effect for their opponent,' whilst Mr. Proude's umpiring (and Mr. Vince's special brew) was all that could be desired. The visitors were handsomely treated by the local men and ladies, the latter being , present in large numbers, and can assure to any. team desirous of a pleasant outing, a' good game, and plenty of fun and frolic, including horseracing, that nothing better can be desired than a trip to Bombay. - Appended are the scores.
