TBS BARQUE LOTHAIR.
A HEATED CORRESPONDENCE. [by TELEGRAPH.— press association, I Wellington, Tuesday. The detention of the barque Lothair, which while on the voyago from Hongkong to Callao, pub into Nelson with several of her crew disabled through sickness, whilo 'several had died from a disease resembling dengue fever, is causing some interest hero, owing bo a somewhat heated correspondence* betweon the Government and Mr. G. Fisher, Italian Consul, Mr. Fisher urged that the vessol should be quarantined here, where there was every convenience for treating pationts, bub the suggestion was not adopted, as the Government after communicating with the medical officer in Nelson, are uncertain whether the disease is epidemic, or of a kind likely to be dangerous to public health. Instructions, however, have now been issued for a further inspection by two indopondonb medical men (Drs. Boor and Gibbs), and tho ship will be quarantined or otherwise as the case may need.
