INTERNATIONAL CRICKET MATCH.
COMMENTS OF THE LONDON PRESS. Press Association.— Electric Telegraph.--Copyright. London, January 3. Commenting on the result of the late test cricket match the Pall Mall Gazette says the victory is a personal triumph for every member of the English eleven. The St. James's Gazette regards it as a splendid victory and testimony to the Englishmen's pluck and stamina which won the day. The Westminster Gazette thinks Stoddart's team can fairly claim to be stronger than anything in Australia. London, January 6. The Speaker states that it would back Stoddarts Eleven to win two out of any three matches against the best teams the Colonials could place in the field. The National Observer says the Queen has taken the greatest interest in the results of the matches.
- Melbourne, January 5, Bruce, if selected, will probably be able to go to Adelaide to play in the third test match.
Stoddart's eleven commenced a match against 18 of Ballarat to-day. The visitors have eight wickets down for 142. The chief scores are : McLaren 34, Phillipson 41, Brown (not out) 29.
