AUCKLAND POULTRY ASSOCIATION.

♦ — TWELFTH ANNUAL SHOW. The \ twelfth annual show in connection with the Auckland Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association was opened yesterday' in the Agricultural Hall under the most favourable circumstances. A more suitable building for the holding of the exhibition could not well be found in Auckland, the large floor space enabling the committee to show the pens of birds off to advantage. The arranging of the pens, which was left in the hands of Mr. E. A. Haywood, was most effectively carried out. The lightiug of the place is also very good. Judging commenced at an early hour, and was continued during the day. The judges were Messrs. W. G. King (Carterton) and Dacre (Christchurch), and their allocation of awards seems to have met with general approval. The committee of management are to be commended for the great success of the show, nothing having been left undone which would in the smallest degree add to its popularity. > Messrs. A. A. White, J. Gallagher, W. Grey. T. Shewring, J. A. Whitson, and C. J. Phillipps have been very busy during the last .few days in making preparations. The latter and the secretary, Mr. Frank Avery, ; are worthy of special commendation for what they have done and for the great interest thai they have taken in the exhibition.!;. The show far eclipses all previous efforts of the Association, all classes of poultry being well represented. The pigeons and canaries are shown in greater variety and numbers than in previous years, and are a very interesting collection, every shade and colour being distinguishable. ' As usual, there is a splendid exhibit of game fowl, Messrs. A. A. White and J. Boswell being well to the front for prizes. In • golden-pencilled Hamburgs Mr. E. Haywood shows some tine birds. Wyandottes'are not in very large numbers, but what are shown are really fine fowl, and much better ; than those of previous years. The houdans, bantams, and dorkings attracted much attention, and were generally admired. Undoubtedly one of the chief features of the show are the pigeons, which are to be seen? in- great variety. Messrs. Reid Brothers and .J.) Walker are large exhibitors, and their birds have all stood high in their respective classes. THE OPENING. Shortly after three o'clock. His Worship the Mayor opened the show, a large number of persons being present. He said he was very pleased to be present that afternoon to assist in the opening of their twelfth annual show. He had had a good look round, and he was forced to admit that he had never seen a finer show of the kind. If he were to take the number of exhibits as a criterion, the success of the show was assured. The committee, he thought, ought to be gratified with the entries, as well as the quality and variety of the exhibits. The juderes had scarcely finished their work, but from what he could hear they had given general satisfaction. He sincerely . trusted that the committee would have the: support of the outside public, for without that tli6 show could not be carried out as it should be. The exhibition was one that was well worth inspection, and the committee had every reason to feel satisfied with it. In conclusion, he hoped it would be as great a success financially as it promised to be in all other respects. (Applause). The following is the prize list :— POULTRY.
