Pearson aud Sons, of Chilwell Nurseries, Notts, strongly recommend their new apple, " Newton Wonder," as the best late apple in cultivation. The fruit in the old country koeps good till the month of June. The apples are large, well-coloured, of perfect form, and of excellent cooking quality. Trees are vigorous growers, and very productive. The apple was accorded a firstclass certificate by the Royal Horticultural Society. Experiments have been made by MM. Goutes and Sibillot with the view of adopting aluminium as the material for the gas holders of dirigible balloons, instead of silk or other stuffs, and the results of their experiments have been satisfactory.
