The finaj match for the Gentlemen's Championship was played off on Saturday, between <}. Fatorsoa and A, G, Cooke.

This match excited considerable interest, and was very hotly contested. Both men played; up well, and a good display of tennis was shown. There were several good rallies between them, but Pearson's judicious net play, and his placing and general steady play,' were often too much for his opponent. Cooke started with a lead, but this he did not maintain for lone. Paterson gradually forged ahead, and had the lead' himself throughout the latter half of. the game. The match resulted in a win for Paterson, the score standing at 75—64.' V AUCKLAND BOWLING CLUB. There was a large attendance of bowlers and visitors on the green on Saturday. At the adjourned meeting of the Otago i Rugby Union, the new president, R. Chiaholm, presided. The anti-affiliation party made a ticket for vice-presidents of Professor Sale, Dr. Allen (Taieri), Mr. VV. Guffie (Naseby), and Mr. D. A. Jolly (Cromwell), and these were elected. The affiliation party's candidates were Mr. J. M. Galloway, Dr. Will, Mr. McOwen, and Mr. W. Laidlaw. Those opposed to affiliation also elected four of the members of committee. Mr. J. Hutchison was elected secretary, and Mr. T. Chalmer treasurer. A requisition was handed in for a special meeting, at wliich affiliation with the New Zealand Union will be proposed. NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION. ANNUAL MEETING. Wellington, Saturday. I The second annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union was held this evening. Mr. G. Campbell, president, in the chair Messrs. G. Dixon, Auckland; J. Card and H. Batchelor, West Coast; Hyams, Wanganui ; M. Hyland, bush districts; J. C. Fache, E. Davey, and A. T. Bate, Wellington; Wesney, Southland; T. K. Cresswell, Canterbury ; H. J. McLean, South Canterbury ; T. S. Ronaldson, Taranaki; D. A. Costa, Poverty Bay ; R. D. Duncan, Manawatu ; F. Pownall, Wairarapa; J. P. Firth, Nelson; P. G. Webb, Marlborough; T. Morrison, Hawke's Bay; and E. D. Hoben, hon. secretary, were present. The affiliation of the Canter and Southland Unions was agreed to. An application of the Bullar Union was deferred for further inquiry, because the proposed union cut off portions ot the West Coast Union, and as that union was only now emerging as a strong union, it would be seriously weakened if it were to break up in this manner. The balance-sheet showed a debit, owing to expenses attached to the trial matches prior to the Australian tour. The President, in moving the adoption of the report, congratulated the Union upon its satisfactory position, and announced that five unions had affiliated since last meeting. The functions of the New Zealand Union, he said, were to deal with matters of colonial importance, and not interfering in the business on local concerns of the affiliated unions. The Australian tour had been the ohief event of the year, and it was a matter of regret that it could not be extended to Victoria, where Rugby football was advancing under the guidance of the Rev. Mr. Hoatson, and the next New Zealand team for Australia would certainly visit Melbourne. The tour had been a success, and had stimulated football, not only in New Zealand, but in the sister colonies. He «aid it was decided to leave , the establishment of a Referees Association to the affiliated unions to work out. The establishment of an Australian union was an important matter, and the result was that all colonies playing Rugby would this season be working under precisely similar rules. \ An Austra-j lasian union would make disqualifications general, and it would obtain fair represent* !
