Wynyard, the secretary, the Club had the right man m the right place, and it was to his untiring energy that the success of the afternoon in a great measure was due. He was ably supported by Messrs. C. Waters and H. vv. Boyd, who worked well. Messrs. A. Harvey, E. VV. Burgess, and J. J. Swinnerton otnciated ™. Judges, and Messrs. Bead, Bartlets, and Prince undertook the duties of timeKeepers. Canterbury commenced at Lancaster Park, Cunstchuroli, at two p.m. ou April 2, and was continued next day. The game resulted in a draw, ■A The weather was De for the Wellington Regatta, which was held on the 28th March, DUt & slight easterly wind raised a heavy sea as the forenoon wore on, and the last two races proved to be fiascos. ihe surprise of the gathering was the com'-' plete reversal of form shown by Keefe in the sculls, and the Auckland crew in the senior tours, as compared with their display at i icton on the previous day. In the sculls Auckland man obtained some of the wash'from the umpire's boat, but this did not anect his chance to any great extent, for ho was a couple of lengths, behind at the time. Ihe Union champions won the double sculls trom _ the jump, but Samuels fainted on reaching the skids, and had to bo carried into the shed. Dr. Pollen who was ca Ji ua . in, pronounced him to be suttenng _ from nervous exhaustion, aud ordered him not to row again until he had complete rest. This unfortunate incident prevented the Unions racing in the Senior Pairs. The sea was very rough for the last two races, the wind having freshened considerably, and it was only with difficulty that these events could be got off. At the annual meeting of the Otago Rugby UniAn, a motion in favour of affiliation with the New Zealand Union produced a lengthy discussion, in which it was opposed by Mr. James Allen, M.H.R., and others. • A division was not taken till 11.45 p.m., when the motion was lost by 20 votes to 19. Mr. J. H. Chapman, who hud not voted, as the question had been remitted from the committee to the delegates, said he thought the members of the retiring committee were wrong in voting on the subject, aud as the motion had been rejected by the votes of the retiring committee, he did not intend to offer himself for any office. The other retiring officers expressed a desire to be relieved from office, and a difficulty arose in consequence in appointing officers. After Mr. Chisholm had been appointed president, midnight arrived, and the meeting adjourned for a week. The annual meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union was held on the 13th April under the presidency of Mr. Devore. There was a large attendance. The report and statement of accounts, as published, were received and reported. On the motion of Mr. Kissling, seconded by Mr. T. Henderson, Mr. Devore was re-elected president of the Rugby Union, Messrs. Hesketh, Kissling, and Brigham were re-elected vice-presidents, Mr. G. H. Dixon secretary, and Mr. J. C. Webster treasurer. _ The following were elected on the Managing Committee Messrs. Ilendersou, Mills, Kissling, Edwards, and Wells. Auditors:Messrs.T. Mackie, jun.,and J.Bancroft.

A bowling tournament; at Napier com menced on March 23 and finished on March 27. The champion rink tournament was won by the Auckland team, comprising Messrs. Ross, Mennie, Paterson, and Gorrie (skip.) Mr. Barnett, of Christchurch, won the champion singles, and in the pairs championship, Messrs. Lainjj and Miller, of Napier, were the victors. The Hawke's Bay Herald gives the following account of the Champion Rink Tournament: "Great interest was manifested in the Champion Rink Tournament, which was completed. The two teams left in for the final were those representing the Aucklaud and Thorndon Clubs. They played a very keenly-contested game. Auckland, aided bywell judged play by its second man, and very careful and successful manoeuvring by Gorrie, the skip, went away with a good lead at the first, and at the seventh head the score stood, Auckland 12, Thordou 3. Up till this time the Thorndon skip (W. Lambert) had been playing guite out of the form displayed by him during the meeting, but in the subsequent play he improved. Thorndon scored for the next four heads, making 5, 2, 1, and 2 respectively, bringing the score up to Thorndon 13 and Auckland 12, with ten heads to go. From this the play became very determined on both sides, the players being stimulated by the presence of a crowd of spectators, who cheered every bit of good play. Head by head and point by point the score mounted up to IS all, with only one head to go. This proved to be the worst played head of the game so far as Thorndon was concerned, and Auckland came in easy winners by three points. On Saturday, April 7, two interesting yacht races took place in the harbour under the auspices of the Auckland Yacht Club, and proved very successful. In the race for the smaller yachts much of the interest was lessened owing to the absence of Webster's yacht Ngaru, leaving only two boats to compete—the Yvonne and Gloriana. The rac*; between the two boats was a keenly-fought one, but the Yvonne proved the winner by some three minutes, notwithstanding that she had to give the Gloriana nearly six minutes' time allowance. In the race for the larger yachts there were five starters, but the event was wholly in the Volunteer's hands from the start, and she came in an easy winner, notwithstanding that she c.it ricd away her topmast when off Brown's Island on the home run. The starters were Volunteer, scratch ; Aorere, 7m.; Tawera, 13m.; Matangi, 13m.; Kestrel, 20m.
