The Champio ship Regatta, under the auspices of the .New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association, was commenced to-day, the weather being unfavourable. Mr. 0. E. iv.tkin, of Wellington, acted as starter, and in every instance his efforts weie highly successful. Mr. A. G. Johnston, of Wellington, acted as umpire, aud Mr. H. F. Hume (stroke) 2 Time, 9m. 11 l-.la. NEW ZEAL AMD RUGBY UNION. Wellington, April 11. The a.nnual report of the New Zealand Riisjby Union states that the past year has been on.-, of steady progress. The Union was able to pay off the colonies' obligation by returning the visit of the New South Wales Union, as well as extending the tour to Queensland. Ten matches were played of which nine were won and one lost, 163 points being scored by New Zealand, as against 14. Two of the matches were against 18. The tour reflected credit on both the players and the affiliated unions, which one and all loyally supported and assisted the project. Mention is made in this connection of the spontaneous offer of the Auckland Union to bear the expenses of the four additional men, if necessary, and of the Wellington public, who subscribed the expenses ! of an extra Wellington man; aud thanks are tendered to Mr. Campbell, manager of the team ; and to Messrs.
