(BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Tauranga, Thursday. To-day has been quite a gala day in Tauranga, in consequence of the athletic sports, and the Haua-McKenkie match for £100. The town is thronged with visitors. The Haua- McKenzie match of 150 yds, for £100, was quite a fiasco. The balance of the stakes (£SO) was paid before the race started, and intense interest was taken in the match. About 30 or 40 yards from home McKenzie came down, and romped home as he liked. Immediately after the match McKenzie gave the spectators a taste of his quality, as in the first heat of the 120 Yards he had to go round his field, and then landed first, and in the next heat of 250 yards he fairly spreadeagled his field. The Maiden Race of 120 yards was won by Roberts, C. Bull being second, and H. Foley third. The Boys' Race was won by Clark with W. Mackrell second. The Cup resulted: McKenzie, 1; Reeves, 2 ; C. Haua, 3. The High Jump was taken by J. Yercoe, beating at 5 feet 6 inches a native from the Waikato called Ruhi, who came with a great reputation as a jumper. The Three-legged Race was won by the two boys Blundell and Hale. The Sack Race was won by H. Tanner. The Half-mile was secured by J. Tanner, of the Wa.ikato, C. Bull being second. The Hurdle Race was won by J. Vercoe, Crosby being second. The Potato Race fell to H. Burtt, and the Mile Race to R. Tanner, of Te Puke; J. Tanner, of the Waikato, was second. This brought a most successful day's sport to a close, and the prizes were presented by His Worship the Mayor at a concert in the evening. , A NEW FOOTBALL UNION. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.) Wkstport, Thursday. A new Rugby Union, to be called the Buller District Union, has been formed here, and the promoters have applied to the New Zealand Rugby Union for affiliation. .
