NEWMARKET BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The regular meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was held last night. Present :—Mr. F. G. Clayton (Mayor), Messrs. Whyman, Angus, Edgerly, Laxon, Lumpkin, Pago, Laurie, Stone, and Heron. Drainage.—Mr. H. Byron wrote granting permission to enter on his property to lay drainage pipes through his ground in Railway-street. The town clerk reported that Mr. Anderson had not replied, but he had refused permission to the chairman of the Streets Committee to enter on his land for any drainage works. Charitable Aid Board.—The secretary of the Charitable Aid Board notified that unless the balance of the borough's contribution for 1893-4 was paid on or before the 16th instant, legal proceedings would be taken for the recovery of the amount. The town clerk intimated that the amount due was only £2 16$ 9d, and it was agreed that: the account be paid. Turncock's Report.—The report of this officer was received. It dealt with various detail matters. He had found that there were several consumers whose names did ! not appear on the former list. On looking over the list of names, the town clerk reported that they were all charged and paid, so far as his memory served him. The report was deferred until next meeting, the Waterworks Committee to report. Bank Balances.—The statement of funds was as follows General account (dr.), £147 18s 5d ; waterworks account (cr.), £206 19s sd; interest account (cr.), £91 4s 2d ; sinking fund account (cr.), £140.
