After some discussion the further consideration of the future conduct of the pilot service was deferred until the next meeting of the committee. Electric Lights on the Wharf.— The question of lighting the wharves by electricity had been deferred from a previous meeting for further information, and now numerous pamphlets and offers on electric lighting were before the eommittee. It transpired that the first coat of the Lyttelton installation was £5491, and the cost of maintenance was £900 per annum. Its advantages for loading and discharging vessels were very apparent, being much superior to gas and less costly. The further consideration of the matter was deferred, as the committee considered that from the information in their possession the expense would be too great at present, and that in the meantime they recommend the Board that no action be taken at present.
