SOLICITORS IN NEW ZEALAND.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday. The following is a copy of the returns prepared by Mr. F. Harrison, secretary of the Wellington Law Society, and laid before that body at its annual meeting : —Number of solicitors practising in New Zealand, 522 ; proportion to population, 1 to 1868 ; or 1 to 365 male adults ; number of solicitors in each of law society districts in New Zealand : — Wellington, 123; Auckland, 95 Canterbury, 94; Otago, 76; Hawke's Bay, 35 ; Southland, 26; Taranaki, 21 ; Westland, 16; Gisborne, 15; Nelson, 12; Marlborough, 9; increase for the past three years, 25; number of members of the Society, 76 (10 joined during 1893, and 47 are practising who have nob joined) ; number of admissions in various years in this district since 1880, there have been 101 admissions in Wellington district, and in 1893 there were 4 ; number of solicitors in Wellington district in 1890, 90 ; 1891,108 ; 1892, 112 ; 1893, 117 ; 1891, 123. Of these 69 are in the city of Wellington.
