AN ANTI-CYCLONIC SYSTEM.
CAPTAIN EDWIN EXPLAINS. [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. Captain Edwin reports that since the 15th instant an anti-cyclonic system of unusual extent has been passing over the country, and barometer readings generally have been higher than at any time since January 21st. The cyclone centre indicated on the 13th acid on the 16th has either so greatly diminished in intensity that it is no longer of any consequence, or has been deflected to a much more easterly routo than usual by the anti-cyclone, which has also caused low pre ssuro worn the westward indicated on 12th and 16th, and which passed south of Stewart's Island yesterday, to move on a route which has carried ib much more to the southward than usual, but as this depression is of considerable extent, and may not have completely passed by this time, it is probable that a decrease of pressure will occur at most places southward of Napier and New Plymouth within the next 36 hours.
