THE FRENCH ELECTIONS
GREAT REPUBLICAN VICTORY. Press Association,—Electric Telegraph.— - Paris, August 21. The results of 86 elections are known, and 36 second ballots are necessary, including MM. Lockroy, FJoquet, Goblet, and Andrieux. MM. Brisson and Clernenceau have been returned. M. Drumont was defeated.
Later. Results of 010 elections are known. The Republicans have returned 309, the Radicals 14, and the Conservatives 44. The Republican gain so far is 40. Sixteen Socialists have been elected. M. Leon Say was returned for Bordeaux. Notwithstanding the recent public clamour the majority of those involved in the Panama scandals succeeded in securing re-election. Paris, August 22. A hundred and forty-five second ballots will be taken on September 3. M. Etienne was re-elected, but M. Clemenceau and M. De Cassagnac will have to await the second ballot. The Right has suffered a complete defeat, also the Boulangists, and the men who sought to make capital out of the Panama scandal. Among the latter was M. Dehahaye, who first brought the charges of corruption before the Chamber of Deputies. M. De Mun defeated M. Rouvier, and MM. De Louche, Bourgois, and Wilson, ex-President Grevy's son-in-law, were elected. There is little excitement. Of the elections the Republicans have gained G3 seats and lost none, while the Royalists have lost 50.
