London, July 18. By a fire at St. Mary-Axe thirty small warehouses were burnt to the ground. Two hundred firemen and forty engines were engaged in preventing the spread of the flames.

The fire caused damage to fifty additional warehouses. A strong wind was blowing, which baffled the efforts of the firemen for four hours. The estimated loss is two millions sterling.
