ABANDONED AT SEA.

A PARTY OF CASTAWAYS.

CAUGHT SIGHT OF IN A STORM. Press Association.—Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.

Sydney, April 26. A STRANGE story conies from Noumea by the French mail steamer. A small vessel, named the Harold, which was reported missing, and which took shelter near Noumea during a gale, reports that while off Elizabeth reef, and driving before a terrific storm, she passed a whaleboat containing about 20 men, looking like castaways. The Harold was unable to render the little craft any assistance, and no news has been received whether assistance was sent. Two large vessels, the Friars Crag and the Colwyn, bound to American ports from Newcastle, are missing, and it is thought castaways may have been the crew of one of those vessels.
