Messrs. James Russell and S. T. George were masters of ceremonies.

The Auckland Choral Society gave their fourth concert of the season at the Choral Hall on Oct. 25, when a miscellaneous programme was submitted. The orchestral pieces comprised thoso played at the Society's third concert—Von Suppo's bright and melodious "Pique Dame" overture; the graceful suite of Moszkowski ; and one of the most perfect and beautiful of overtures, that of Rossini's great opera " William Tell." These were all ably performed by an efficient orchestra, conducted by Herr Schmitt, and under the lead of Mr. Kent. There was a very large audience. His Excellency the Governor and the Countess of Glasgow were present, accompanied by Ladies Alice and Augusta Boyle, Miss Hallowos, Miss Holroyd, Captain Hunterßlair, and Messrs. Walker made efficient M.C.'s. The gathering did nob disperse until an early hour next morning.

The annual gymnastic carnivals given by Professor Carrollo and his pupils have always enjoyed a very wide popularity, and that which took place in the Opera House on October 22 was no exception to this rule. The audience was a large, fashionable, and enthusiastic one, and manifested the greatest interest in the proceedings from start to finish.

The annual fancy dross ball given by Miss Scott to the pupils of her dancing classes took place at the Choral Hall on October 21. The dancers were about in number, almost all children, and the costumes they wore were handsome, and several of them unusually striking. The Auckland Savage Club held one of their enjoyable "social evenings" on October 22. There was a large attendance of members, and a capital and varied programme of recitations, songs, and instrumental selections. The president (the Rev. W. Beatty) presided. Some of the visitors contributed items to the programme, as well as members, among the professionals being Mr. Snazelle, who gave both recitations and songs ; Mr. Scott-Inglis (of the Grattan-Riggs Dramatic Company), a recitation ; Horr Zimmermann, a violin solo of his own composition; and Mr. Towsey, some instrumental selections. He also played most of the accompaniments. Before the meeting broke up, the president confratulated one of the members (the Hon. W. IcCullough) on his elevation to the Legislative Council.

The Parnell Football Club celebrated the close of their season—a most successful one —by a dinner and entertainment at the Parnell Hall on October 25. There was an attendance of about 120 at the table. Mr. C. S. Kissling, president of the club, was chairman, and Mr. S. T. George vice chairman. A feature was a presentation made to Mr, J. R. Smith. It was a very handsome walkintf-ftick, with a silver clasp bearing the inscription, " Presented to J. R. Smith by the P.F.C., 1892;" the mounting and lettering having been done by Mr. C. M. Page, Queen-street. Mr. Smith suitably replied. A very successful social evening in connection with the Church of the Epiphany was held in St. George's Hall, Newton, on October 25. Notwithstanding the unfavourable weather the building was filled to the doors with an enthusiastic audience. A very agreeable concert, promoted chiefly by Miss Edith Abbott and Mr. Beale, assisted by the secretary (Mr. Thornes) and other friends, was held on October 14 in the large schoolroom of the Institute for the Blind, Parnell, and there was a very large attendance. An adult fancy dress ball in connection with Mrs. Sowerby's dancing classes was held in tho Choral Hall on Oct. 13, and was a pronounced success from every point of view. On Oct. 27 the Onehunga Musical Society gave their fifth and last concert of the season in the 1.0. G.T. Hall at that town. The attendance was very large, the building being crowded to its utmost capacity. Haydn's, pretty cantata "Spring" ("The Seasons") constituted the first part of the programme, and miscellaneous numbers the second part. The concert was most success ful, and reflected the greatest credit upon the performers and the society's indefatigable and popular conductor, Mr. E. J. Gatland. The soloists in the cantata were : Miss Alice Rimmer, Messrs. T. Jones and VV. F. Dickey. A banquet of rather a novel description was held on October 27 in the Pitt-street Schoolroom under the presidency of Mr. Arthur Rosser. Intoxicating liquors were conspicuous by their absence, and the members proved conclusively that it is just as easy to hold a banquet without champagne as it is with it. A banquet, arranged by the trade unions, was given at Wellington on Saturday night, October 29, to the Hon. J. Rigg, in honour of his elevation to the Legislative Council.

The members of the Ponsonby Football Club celebrated, on Nov. 2, the termination of the football season, and the victory of their second fifteen, by a most successful and enjoyable banquet in tho Oddfellows' Hall, Ponsonby.
