SUICIDES.

At the inquest at Dunedin on Baxter, who committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor, a verdict of " temporary insanity" was returned. The deceased's family said he feared being pressed for rent, but a representative of the landlord said the rent had never been demanded. Before committing the act, the deceased wrote a note addressed to a Christchurch jeweller, saying he preferred to end his life to accepting charity. A body found in the Wellington Botanical Gardens on Oct. 19 was identified as that of Peter White, late salesman in Messrs. Kempthorne, Prosser, and Co.'s drug department. Deceased was about 50 years of age, and is believed to have a wife and family residing in Sydney. At the inquest on the body an open verdict was returned. On going to the house they found a woman named Taylor, who is living apart from her husband, lying on the floor of the passage with her throat cub in two places, the windpipe being severed. The wounds being dressed the woman was sent to the hospital. No cause is assigned for the deed. A youth named Tegg, age 18, employed on the Mosier farm, near Temuka, hanged himself on the 30th October in a workshed, and was found dead next morning.
