An enormous landslide has taken place on the Northern Railway, near Taraworth, and the line will be blocked for five days. THE STRIKE ON THE GABO. Melbourne, October 16. Seventeen summonses have been served on the secretary of the Seamen's Union, charging him with inciting the crew of the steamer Gabo to desert the vessel. ,;■*'• .: ALLEGED SLANDER. Perth, October 15. Directors of the Western Australian Midland Railway Company, who are in London, purpose instituting prosecutions for slander against Sir J. G. Lee Steere, Speaker ol the Legislative Assembly, and Mr. Simpson, member for Geraldton. It is alleged they made a charge of fraud against the company when addressing their constituents. THE SCHOOL SYSTEM OF NEW SOUTH WALES. Sydney, October 15. Mr. F. B. Suttor, Minister for Public Instruction, speaking at the opening of a public school, i defended the school system! of New South Wales from adverse comments, especially the' reference to religious instruction, which was made at the Folkestone Church Conference.
