THE GISBORNE EMPLOYED.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 Gisborne, Thursday. All of the men who were sent here by the Labour Bureau have at last obtained employment. Two, who were quite unlit for bush work, for which they were sent, have obtained casual work in gardens about town.

Wellington, Thursday. In connection with the telegram from Gisborne respecting men sent there to lind work, tho Labour Bureau agent telegraphs in response to inquiries from the Department " Men stated they were led to believe they would be met by employers on arrival, and having no means to keep themselves until they found employment, I had them supplied with good food and lodgings until this morning. They have all now got work, some bush felling, some temporary employment in gardens. I am now of opinion they will get on very well. Men have not been starving, as alleged, but have been well cared for."

With respect to the men who were sent to Wairoa, the Bureau states that 16 men were selected to be sent up, Constable Shaw having reported that there was work there for 20 men. They were selected by Mr. Swan, M.H.R., and Sergeant Cullen. A report received from the latter to day says only throe men came back, and 13 obtained employment.
