A MINING ACCIDENT.

[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Thursday. A man named Edward Brown, an employee of the Sylvia Gold and Silver Mining Company, Turaru, was seriously injured last night. It appears Brown was on the nightshift, which had just relieved the previous shift, and to oblige a mate he took a truck filled with mullock out to dump it over the tip. In doing so the truck ran off the line near where there are points laid for running in over the quartz hoppers, with the result that it fell over the trostle work to a depth of eight or nine feet, carrying Brown along with it. Help was immediately forthcoming, and a rude stretcher was at once improvised upon which Brown was laid, and his mates brought him into the hospital, reaching there shortly after two o'clock this morning. Dr. Williams at once attended to the sufferer, and upon examination found that Brown's left arm was broken and his shoulder dislocated from the collarbone, whilst it was also evident he had received severe internal injury as well, for lie was then spitting blood, and has continued to do so during to-day. Dr. Williams states that in addition to the injuries mentioned the shock incurred to tho system is also great, so that it will probably be some time before Brown thoroughly recovers. Tho company's manager, Dr. Scheidel, day visited the hospital and directed that Brown should receive every possible attention in order that his recovery should be accelerated.
