LAY READERS' ASSOCIATION.
The annual Conference of toe lay readers' of the Anglican Church, was held yesterday. The proceedings began with Holy Communion in the Chapel at Bishop's
'■ ourt, when the Bishop gave an earnest and practical address. At one o'clock the lay readers were the guests of Mrs. Cowie at dinner. The annual meeting was held at a quarter-past two p.m. There were present: —The Bishop, the Ven. Arch deacon Dudley, the Revs. T. P. Hewlett, J. Marshall, \V. Beatty, J. Bates, C. W. Lush, A. S. Fox, C. M. Nelson. J. Haselden, F. Larking, I. Richards, W. H. Johnston, and «J. K. Davis, and the lay readers, Messrs. S. Luke, T. Charter, F. (>. Ewington, C. Grosvenor, C. J. Wilson, J. B. Brown, H. Crispe, C. M. Burton, E. J. Matthews,.!. Bridge water, J. W. Tibbs, J. Dunning, E. W. Jourdain, A. Brown, E. U. Haigh, 10. Williams, J. W. Salmon, and E."Y. Cox. After the minutes had Dcen read and passed, the following officers j were elected : Hon. secretary and treasurer, the Rev. J. Haselden ; librarian, the Rev. C. M. Nelson committee, Messrs. T. Charter, F. G. Ewington, J. W. Tibbs, S. Luke, and W. E. Jourdain. The Bishop ,is ex' officio President, and Archdeacon Dudley, vice-president. The names of 54 lay readers," who sent letters of apology for unavoidable absence, weie reail by the ■secretary. ft was resolved, " That the next gathering should be held on the Queen's Birthday," as it was thought that the attendance on a ' holiday would be larger than on an ordinary working day. After some routine business had been gone through, papers were read by Mr. E. i. Cox and Mr. E. 0. Haigh. The papers were able and instructive, And were discussed with interest. A pleasant day was concluded by the Bishop pronouncing the i Benediction.
