BANKRUPTCY.

GEORGE WILSON'S CREDITORS. A specially convened meeting of creditor? | in the estate of George Wilson, carter and contractor, a bankrupt, was held yesterday, in the Official Assignee's office. This bankruptcy is an old one, and the debtor had, before .applying for his discharge, left for Sydney, while his affairs were in an unsatisfactory state. It was ascertained that he had returned to Auckland recently. The creditors present were Mr. King (Bank of New South Wales), Messrs. C. Atkin, W. A. Atkin, Neil (Laxon and Neil), Symons, McFfirlane, Carter, Dawson, and Webley (Mount Eden Road Board). In the absence of Mr. Lawson (Official Assignee), through indisposition, Mr. McFarlane was called to the chair. The chief clerk, Mr. 11. A. Hould, explained the reason for calling the meeting. Mr. Lawson had received notice from Messrs. Devore and Cooper that they were about to apply to have the bankruptcy closed in order that the bankrupt might apply for his discharge. It was not necessary that a meeting should bo called ; but Mr. Lawson, under the circumstances, thought it desirable to call the principal creditors togethertodecide whether they should takeany action in regard to the bankrupt's application for discharge. The position of the estate was that a first dividend of '2s Gd had been paid, and the assets in hand would pay a final dividend of ll£d, and as there was nothing further to realise, the bankruptcy had been closed. The clerk, in answer to a creditor, said they had received £06 19s lid from the Citv Council as the amount due to Wilson, and this, with the proceeds of the sale, made the total receipts £4'29 4s 6d. Mr. W. A. Atkin moved that the bankrupt's discharge be opposed on various grounds. He had made several statements as to his affairs which were proved to be untrue, and he had reliable information that since Wilson's return he had offered £500 cash for a property at the Thames. Mr. King said he would like to have Wilson examined by the Official Assignee. Now that ho was back from Sydney, Wilson ought to be examined as to why he went to Sydney, and also with regard to his alleged mis-state-ments as to his affairs, and this alleged offer of £500 for a property at the Thames. He moved that the meeting be adjourned for a week in order that the bankrupt might be examined by the Official Assignee as to his affairs, and that no action be taken for the bankrupt's discharge till the creditors had an opportunity of deciding on his explanation. Mr. C. Atkin seconded this motion, and it was carried.
