HIGHWAY BOARD MEETINGS.

WAIROA SOUTH.

The first meeting of the newly - elected \\ air Road Board was held at the Board's office oil Saturday, 14tli May, at two p.m. Mr. Daniel Crawford was elected chairman, and Mr. Hugh (Sutherland treasurer. The chairman, treasurer, anil Mr. H. D. Poynter were authorised to sign cheques. The regular meetings of the Board were fixed for the second Tuesday in each month, at two p.m. —[Own Correspondent.]

I'UHOI. The annual meeting of the Puhoi District Board was advertised to be held on May 7. A quorum not being present, the secretary postponed the meeting for seven days, being May 14, at four p.in , when a quorum was present. The chairman (Mr. J. Scholium) of the outgoing Board presided at the meeting, and remarked that at such public meetings the ratepayers should take more interest in Road Board matters. However, as people cannot bo compelled to attend, matters must be left as they are. The secretary read the following balance-sheet for the year ending March 31, 1892 :—Receipts : Balance, 31st March, 1891, £39 17s (id ; Government subsidy, £2 17s 2d ; general rate, £64 Is 3d : total, £100 15s lid. Expenditure: Compensation to Straka, £70; works on road, £3; ofiioe expenses, £8 7s ; advertising, £1 6s 3d ; auditor, £1 ; Bank of New Zealand, March 31, 1892, £22 7s ; cash in hand, 15s 8d : total, €101) 15s lid. Assets, March 31, 1892 : Cash in bank, £22 7s : cash in hand, 15s 8d ; rate recoverable, £15 0s (id : total, £38 3s 2d. Liabilities. March 31, 1892: Compensation due to Straka. £47 19s (id; outstanding accounts, £(> 13s Gd : total, £54 10s. The balance-sheet as read was adopted by the meeting. The newly-elected Board held their first meeting at five p.m. on the same day. Mr. .1. Scholium was again elected chairman for the year; some other routine business being gone through, among which was that proceedings would be taken against those ratepayers who had not yet paid their rates if they did not pay up.[A Correspondent.] M AUNG ATA WHIRL The annual meeting of the above Board was held at the Board's office (l'okeno Hill, old schoolhouse) on Saturday.
