THE GOLDFIELDS.
[by telegraph.— own correspondent.] Thames, Wednesday. Saxon. — Both tlio drives on Nos. 1 and 2 reefs at No. 1 level, are being continued as usual, and a little gold is seen in the quartz broken.
Hazei.ba.vk.Very fair prospects have been met with during the last day or two, it» what is known as Brady's leader, at No. 1 level. It. is on the toot wall side of the cross reef, and ranges from eight inches to a foot in thickness. Excellent mineral indications prevail in the quartz, and gold has been seen pretty freely in recent breakages of the quartz. Victoria. —No quartz has been broken down from the hangingwall reef at the 160 feet level for a wee?; past, operations having been confined solely to stripping in both the stopes and winze, but it is probable a breaking down will take place to-morrow. The cleaning out of the '210 feet level is not yet completed, but the worst portion of the work appears to have been nearly overcome. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. New Albuknia.—The north crosscut has been extended a further distance of 15 feet through fair sandstone country. On Thursday a small body of quartz was cut, which corresponds with Christie's leader. To make sure on this point the men were started to drive west on its course, and on Saturday the old ladderway was met with, which proves it to be the abovenamed leader. Mo gold has been seen here up to the present, though some of the quartz looks promising. After a little repairing, which will be completed in a few days, the crosscut will again be pushed ahead to intersect Dixon's reef. The quartz on hand (15 loads) has been forwarded to the Saxon battery, and crushing finished to-day. The stone, which showed very little gold in breaking out, has shaped very poor, giving a return of 7oz 14dwt melted gold.
