VICTORIAN RAILWAYS.
CHARGES AGAINST THE COMMISSIONERS.
Press Association.—Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.
Melbourne. May 18. A statement has been tabled in the House of Assembly, to the effect that the Railway Commissioners took no adequate steps to carry out the will of Parliament. It also declares the Commissioners were guilty of grossly extravagant management of the railways, which since their term of office have been conducted without economy or business principles, and they also refused to take any steps towards a scheme of reform and retrenchment. Mr. R. Speight, the late chairman of the Railway Board, who has been interviewed, declares the charges baseless and unprovable.
