SPORTING.

It will be recollected that oil the occasion of the Trotting and Pony Races held recently in aid of the Huutly disaster fund there was a dispute in regard to the bona fides of a mare entered in the Maiden Trot Race under the name of Dolly, it being alleged that she had previously been run under a different name. . The stewards of the Auckland and Otahuhu Trotting Club determined to sift the matter to the bottom, and two of their number went to the Waikato to make inquiries. The investigations of these gentlemen have ... led to the following resolutions being adopted at a meeting of the club " That after carfully considering the evidence in this case the stewards have come to the conclusion that the mare Dolly ha 3 competed in trotting races on previous occasions and under a different name, viz., Makokomiko, and that no list; of performances having been given and no registration of such change of name having been made, the mare Dolly or Makokomiko is hereby disqualified from receiving the stakes in the Handicap Maiden,- Trot, and that the mare Dolly or Makokomiko and all those interested in the running of said mare, viz., R. Ferguson, W. McMillan, J. McMillan, and R. Hollis are hereby disqualified for life from taking any part whatever in any trotting or racing meeting held under the Auckland Trotting Club's rules, and that the said parties be warned off all courses where said rules are in force. Further, that the first prize in the said Maiden Trot be awarded to the mare Rambuster, and the second prize in said trot to the gelding Laddie." THE HORSE OF MANY NAMES. [BY TETjKGRAMI. —•PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Napier, Saturday. The committee of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club to-day drew up the following finding on the Warepa affair : — That the bay gelding which ran at the Town and ■ Suburban Race Meeting on the 26th of May last under the name of " Carmo" is the same horse that ran at Flemington, Victoria, in 1886, under the name of " Problem," and also ran at Forbury, Otago, in 18S6, under the name of " Warepa," and also ran at Westport on the 26th December last, and at Greymouth on 31st December and Ist January last under the name of " Redeem," The committee find that the horse "Problem" was disqualified forever in 1886 by the Dtmcdin J.C., and this club then endorsed that decision.

The following is the description of the horse : —Lijjht bay gelding, aged, about 16 hands, white blaze down face, two white hind points, extending up over the fetlock joints, white marks over the coronet on the forelegs, both fore hoofs have been tampered with ; brand F off side close up to the mane. ' m The committee disqualify for life Sydney G. Parkes, of Wellington, (owner); William Parker, of Wellington, (owner); Bernard Ferrers, late of Wairarnpa, (nominator); and George Smith, late of the Hiitt, Wellington, (trainer of die aforesaid gelding.) , In the course of the enquiry the committee found that several persona had had a knowledge of the fraud, and although not directly connected with -horse are more or less placed under suspicion. These persons are cautioned'that their conduct will be closely watched in the future.

The committee consider that the stewards of the, Town and Suburban Racing Club showed a great lack of appreciation of their duties in allowing the horse to start. In consequence they order them to pay the costs of the enquiry. That a copy of the above be forwarded to all the Metropolitan Clubs in the colony, and that they be asked, in view of the circumstances of the case, and the difficulty involved in conducting the enquiry, to take especial care that all the persons mentioned be warned off any and all course;! under their control, and that all Australian Jockey Clubs be notified of the fact.
