[BY TELEGRAPH.—PKKS3 ASSOCIATION.] HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. . . Saturday. _ THE LAND BILL DEBATE. [Our report of the proceedings in the House of Representatives was continued up to two o'clock, when Mr. Valentine was speaking on the Land Bill, and during whose speech the galleries were cleared.] . After the galleries were cleared this morning the debate was kept going, Mr. Valentine speaking till a quarter to four. Then followed Mr. Buchanan,. Mr. Fergus,' and Mr. ahera, in the order named. Towards five o'clock Mr. Moore moved, "That the debate be adjourned," which was lost by 15 to 28." Then Mr. Fergus moved the adjournment of the House, but this was also negatived. At half-past five the amendment was put and lost by 29 to 10, and the second reading of the Bill was carried on the voices. Strangers were then re-admitted on the motion of Mr. Fish, and the Bill was referred to the Waste Lauds Committee. <( Some , discussion ensued on the motion "That the House do now adjourn," during which Mr. Rolleston remarked that it was evident from the tactics of the Government that they wanted to stifle opposition to the Bill; but the Government, on the other hand, contended , that the Opposition were obstructing business. Shortly after six a.m. a number of members left the Chamber, and the House was counted out. , The following was the division list: — For amendment (10): Buchanan, Buckland, Fergus, Fisher, G. H. Mills, Pinkurton, Rees, Rolleston, Seddon, E. M. Smith, W. G. Smith, Tanner, Taylor, J. W. Thomson, Ward. Pairs For the amendment: Wilson, Rhodes, Fergus, Bryce, Hamlin, J. Mills, Mitchelson,'Macarthur, Valentine, Taipua, Russell, Scobie Mackenzie, Lawry, Moore, Duthie, Hall. Against the amendment : W. Hutchison, Palmer, Saunders, Parata, Guinnes3, Perceval. McGuire, R. H. J. Reeves, tlarkness, VV. P. Reeves, Newman, Black, R. Thompson, O'Conor, T. Thompson. Sir G. Grey's name also appears on the Government whip lists as having paired in favour of the amendment.
