Quinton and Grimwood, arid Colonel Skene are still prisoners. Mrs. Grimwood, three officers, and fifteen more GhoorkhaS are reported to have escaped. • The War Office have hopes that the bulk of the main escort, with cavalry and Lieutenant Grant's company, are still entrenched. / # \ The attack on the troops is attributed to a fear of annexation by the natives, who have become very restive of late. . Later. Cowley's column is safe, and it is believed all the missing officers are alive. Bombay, April 2. The Marquis of Lansdowne, Viceroy | of India, has received a report of the j recent massacre of Ghoorkas at Mani- ! pur. . . It appears that an attempt was being made to arrest usurper Jobrag, to which great resistance was offered. The expedition then retreated to the Residency, which was shelled by the rebels. , Commissioner Quinton and four other Britishers were taken prisoners while parleying. ' After the cartridges gave out the expedition fought its way across the hill until a junction was made with Captain Cowley, who was at the head of 200 of 43 I'd Bengalese. .
