ABBOTTS OPERA HOUSE.
" MASKS AMD PACES." For the farewell benefit of Miss Janet Achurch, the play of " Masks and Faces" was re-produced at the Opera House last night, and, taking the large circuit of characters in which she has appeared before the Auckland public, we think no selection could have been better. Auckland playgoers also showed their high appreciation of the distinguished actress who has been amongst us, by according to her a bumper house. The impersonation of " Peg Woih'ngton" fully took the audience, and the shower of bouquets which fell at the closing scene was an intimation of heartfelt and thorough appreciation. A more interesting scene occurred after the fall of the curtain. Mr. and Mrs. Charrington were then the guests of the company, and Mr. Fleming, on behalf of the company, and as a souvenir of their Mew Zealand trip, presented to them a beautiful album. The cover is made of Mew Zealand woods, pieced together in the most artistic manner, containing about 350 pieces. It is a very eloborate cover, and contains the portraits of Mr. and Mrs. Charrington (Miss Achurch), and all the members oi the company. The album also contains a large number of Mew Zealand views. The groups are beautiful specimens of photographic art, the work of Mr. J. R. Hanna, of Queen-street. Mr. Charrington, on behalf of himself and wife, made a suitable response, and at the close the band played " He's a Jolly Good Fellow," and "Auld Lang Syne. Last night's performance concludes Miss Achurch's tour in Mew Zealand, but the conumny proceeds to Australia, where they will re-unite lot: another tour.
