THE WELLINGTON REGATTA.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday. There was excellent weather for the holiday. A steady, but not unpleasant northerly breeze, and a sunny sky suited both picnics, races, and regatta. The chief interest iu the latter was centred in the first-class yacht race, in which the Mascotte and Pastime, two Lyttelton boats, competed against the Tarifa, Girola. Isca, and Mima, the local yachts. The Maritana to* the general disappointment did not get in. All that is known of her is that a strong wind was blowing in Palliser Bay which she could not possibly face. At one time the. Mima, whose allowance was Bm. 135., was only sm. behind the Mascotte, which had to pick up the difference in the last round. The local boat at this point was thought to have a good chance, but she lost so much ground in th e last round that the Mascotte came in lam. 53a. ahead, beating the Mima by 7m. 40a. The Jessie Logun won the second class race.
