ROTORUA NEWS.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Rotorua, Thursday. Duriko the first few days of the sitting of the Native Land Court, after the holidays, the attendance of natives was very meagre, owing to many of them being at Maketu and elsewhere. On Judge Wilson threatening to close the Court, it soon brought large numbers, all eager to go oa with their cases. There is now sufficient work to keep the Court here for several months. Small but important pieces in the Ohinemutu settlement are now being adjudicated upon. Signatures to a petition to a Wellington solicitor, whose name in the meantime is Blank, are being vigorously canvassed for. The petitioners ask that steps be taken to test the validity of the Government purchase of the Rotorua township. I hear there is an impression amongst some of the natives that they will yet succeed in squeezing £20,000 out of the Government for back rents due on the township. Only a few passengers arrived by coach from Oxford to-day, but nine are expected from Taupo this evening.
