Manuka —A crushing of 28 tons of quartz was completed to-day for the payable return of 48oz melted gold. Hazklbank.—The reef in the stopes looks very promising, being from 12 to 18 inches thick, and showing gold freely. As soon as the crosscut being driven conjointly by this company and the Caledonian Company at No. 1 level connects with the stopes, which should be about the end of the week, the quartz on hand will be forwarded to the battery for treatment.

Excelsior (Tararu). — Operations were commenced in this mine to-day by starting to clean out an old level near the Flora McDonald battery site, with the view of prospecting a large reef intersected in it.

Golden Dream (Tararu). — Excellent prospects are being met with by the proprietors in working upon the reef, which is over 30 feet wide. Gold is seen freely in a band of quarts: about four feet wide, near tho centre of the reef, and some fine specimens have been saved.

Moanatai\ki.—Cleaning up and retorting for this company, after a month's run, will take place to-morrow. There are 4200z cold water squeezed amalgam on hand from the general dirt, and there 'are also 1301b picked stone. S«xon.—Gold was seen freely to day in the quartz vein, running in the hangingwall of No. 2 reef at No. 6 level. A breaking down of quartz will take place tomorrow in the winze upon No. 1 reef below No. 5 level, and also in the drive upon the new reef at No. 4 level.

Emkkald(Hape Creek). —Operations were commenced to-day on behalf of the syndicate who own this mine, which is situated above the Consols. It is intended to drive upon the large reef, which is said to have yielded excellent prospects some years ago. May Queen. —An extra five head of stampers were obtained this morning at the Cambria battery, so that 15 head of stampers are now at work reducing the quartz on behalf of this company. In the mine, the reef in the eastern drive is composed of about 12 inches solid quartz on its footwall side, and about 15 inches of clay and rubbly quartz on its hangingwall, together with one or two small leaders on each side in which gold is sometimes seen. The country still remains an excellent class of sandstone, and is interlaced with nice-looking mineral veins.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Thy Fluke (Kuaotunu). —The low level is in a total of 100 feet, and during the past week some very fair stone was obtained tint is, colours of gold wero visible to the naked eye. The reef has become a little more solid ; at present there is about onethird of the whole reef, which is 8 feet wide, treated at battery. No. 5 south stope is nov completed, namely 39 feet, and' a fair show of gold is left in this face. No. 5 north is in a total of 28 feet; tho reef is fully 7 feet, the hangingwall portion is very good, and small prospects are obtained towards footwall. The intermediate level is now in 63 feet, the reef in present face is a little broken up, from which fair prospects can bo washed. The amalgam has not been thoroughly cleaned -up this week. The places continue to look well, from which 1 expect a good return; we will require to put new shoes on the stamps this week or on Monday. I put a man on to cut the new reef lately discovered by the Kuaotunu Goldmining Company, and he ought to be close on it by the end of next week.

Carbine (Kuaotunu). —There is nothing of more than ordinary importance to report concerning any of the workings in the mine. Driving is still being continued on the footwall vein in No. 1 tunnel, and the output of quartz is much the same as heretofore both as regards quantity and quality. The face is now in 48 feet from the junction, .and payable ore has been obtained the whole distance, thus showing the run of gold to be much wider in this level than in the one above. Stoping has also been carried on in the block southward from the winze, and with satisfactory results, a few pounds of picked stone having been obtained in addition to the quartz ordinarily got, which is still of good grade. In No. 2 tunnel the drive on the reef is being vigorously pushed ahead There is at present about three foet of quartz of excellent appearance, and carrying gold. ShOtovek (Kuftotuuu).— The men are pushing on the crosscut, but the country is very hard at present. The water is still coming out of the face, and every indication of a change of country close at hand. I have no reef to hand as yet, but may have the reef at any day, as the ground in the face looks bettor.

Vizard.—Since uy last I put on a shift in No. 2 winze, 80 feet south of No. 1 winze. The reef at this point is from a foot to eighteen inches thick, and in breaking down showed blotches of gold.

Surplus Claim.—Mr. Jones, mine manager, who is at present in town, received yesterday the following wire from the mine:— "Got 101b of good picked stone on Friday."

Alfred.—The directors have decided to vigorously work this mine. As a preliminary, instructions have been given to the supervisor, Mr. C. Whisker, to open up Moars' reef, a portion of the ground that gave good returns when originally worked ; also to prospect the upper portion of the ground, through which many well-known reefs are known to traverse, notably the Mountain Flower reef, from which such good returns have lately been obtained.

A number of the directors of the Mountain Flower Gold Mining Company visited the company's property at the Thames, and have just returned to Auckland. They report in high terms of the value of the mine, which they inspected with great care. The directors of the company have applied for the right to tunnel on the Shellback side of the claim. Work in the mine is to be commenced at once, when the mine manager 1 i 3 engaged.

Yesterday, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Messrs. Webbe, Brothers and Co. held their first bi-daily sales by public auction, in their Exchange, Government Insurance Buildings. Before the appointed time the building was crowded with those desirous of seeing the new system tried. The sales were very successful on the whole, both buyers ana sellers expressing themselves satisfied. The following are a few of the prices obtained Try Flukes, 9s 6d ; May Queens, 12s lid ; Carbines, 2s lOd; Pride of the Hills, 9d; John Bulls, 6Jd ; Pinfires, 4£d ; Otamas, Is 4d ; Just-in-Times, Is 6d ; Victorias (Kuaotunu), Is 4d; Kuaotunus, Is 7Jd; Victory, 4Jd.
