THAMES NEWS.
[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.J Thames, Friday. When the Hon. Mr. Mitchelson was here on Wednesday last, he stated, in answer to questions re the completion of the railway line between here and Te Aroha, that if on his return here next month it could be proved to him that the line would pay if completed as far as Paeroa, he would recommend its immediate prosecution thus far. Acting on this suggestion, the Mayor, Mr. W. Carpenter, has invited each member of the local bodies to meet him on Tuesday evening next for the purpose of considering the best method for placing the matter before the Minister.

For the first offence he was fined £3 and £1 3s costs, with no alternative ; for the second, a fine of £3 and £2 lis costs was inflicted, or, in default, two months' imprisonment with hard labour in Mount Eden Gaol. The latter fine was at once paid, and time allowed accused to pay the former.
