THE CHINESE QUESTION.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Greymouth, Friday. The Chinese merchants here know nothing of such a communication as the Evening Post states the Wellington Chinese have received from the Imperial authorities warning them not to enter into any business engagements which would likely embarrass them in returning to China if called upon to do so, consequent on any immigration difficulty with England. They say they receive copies of a Chinese paper every mail, and if anything of that kind was contemplated, it is probable that journal would have some reference to it, but it has not contained a single word to indicate the likelihood of such contingency. They discredit the story altogether.
