Marototo Crushing. — The return for the 18cwt ore recently treated at the School of Mines from tho Marototo Gold and Silver Mining Co.'s mine was to-day publicly announced as being 5840z bullion, the total value of which is £175 2s, being '2s short in the grand total of Gs per oz. Of this quantity of bullion 46ozfrorn the plates and boxes were worth 24s 5d per oz; 32307, j 15dwt (first yield from the pans), 4s 9d per oz ; and 2140z sdwt (last yield from pans), 3s lid per oz. In addition to the abovo return a few ounces are yet to come to hand, besides which Mr. Montgomery intends roasting and treating the tailings • (which were all saved) over again, and expects to bring the final return up to 90 per cent, of the assay value, which was 7400z per ton of 22401b. Mr. Moore expresses himself as being greatly pleased at the result, and givos much praise to Mr. Montgomery for the careful manner with which tho latter dealt with the ore. It may be stated that Mr. Moore has about four tons of ore in hand of equal value to tho above, and from 40 to 50 tons worth from £20 to £30 per ton. J Paekoa, Tuesday. Marototo.—The return from 18cwt. of ore from tho Marototo mine, treated at the School of Minos, Thames, yielded sS4ozs. bullion, valued at £175. There is still a small portion of the bullion to come. In the Warden's Court to-day the application of John Abbot, for protection for the New Era claim, Waiorongamai, was adjourned for a fortnight to give time for a transfer of the property, tho Warden intimating that he would not grant protection whde it stood in Mr. Abbot's name. Three months' protection for tho Success No. '2 claim, Waiorongomai, was applied for by T. G. Marlow ; granted for 14 days. The application of James Munro for tho Beelzebub claim, Waiorongomai, was also granted. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Gem.The prospects of your mine for the past week continue fully equal to that mentioned in my last to you, viz., encouraging, with an increased working staff. We have steadily carried 011 driving and stoping on both leaders. The Black Lode : This lode still maintains its character in size and gold-bear-ing qualities. Gold is seen almost every breaking down in the six stopes. We have opened on the block in hand. The Hangingwall Leader : On this leader we have up to date a stretch of about 80 feet driven, and in breaking the leader in the face of the drive down to-day, gold was seen in the stone. We have also five stopes on this leader, in each of which gold is invariably seen when breaking the reef down. Mr. Lawrence expects to have the battery ready for crushing about the first week in January next. We shall make a start to get our quartz to the battery as soon as possible. Cambria. —The intermediate drive 011 the No. 1 leader, above No. 4 level, is in a distance of 58 feet. The loader in the face of the drive is six inches in thickness. Colours of gold are being seen through the quartz when breaking down the leader. Colours of gold arc also seen in a stringer 011 the footwall side of the leader, 'the second stope east over tho intermediate drive on the No. 6 leader, is along 15 feet. Dabs and colours of gold were seen freely through the quartz when breaking down the leader. Dabs and coloiu's of gold were also seen in the leader on the footwall side of No. 0 leader. Six men are still stoping 011 the hangingwall leader below No. 2 level. Colours of gold were seen through the quartz when breaking down the leader. The company's battcrv is running full time on public crushing. The battery and winding-engine are in good working order.
