THE WELLINGTON HOSPITAL.
DEFECTIVE DRAINAGE. [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesday. Dr. King, medical superintendent of the Hospital, reports that the drainage connected with the institution is seriously defective, and to this he attributes the ulcerated and sore throats which have prevailed among the servants. He states that the general health of the whole of the inmates, who may bo subjected to the influence of the sewer gas, is of necessity impaired, and he could point out patients who have had to remain longer in the hospital for disease contracted on the premises than for the original complaint which caused them to enter the institution. His attention was specially attracted to the boys' ward by the fact that every nurse without exception who did duty there contracted scire throat, and on making an examination he discovered that there was a faulty connection between the bath waste-pipe and the soilpipe of the water closet. The report was referred to the house committee.
