CABLE INTERRUPTED.
[PRESS association.] Sydney, October 10. The Port Darwin cable is interrupted, and it is believed to have been broken by the repairing steamer Sherard Osborne while grappling for the old cable. The Cable Superintendent at Wakapuaka telegraphs : —"Following received from Port Darwin : ' Sherard Osborne been at work 011 old cable since second. Being buried found a difficulty in picking it up. It parted on the night of the second or third ; weather very thick ; grappling uiv successful. The ship returned to BanjoC' wanjie on the fifth to see if the duplicate cable was right. Returned to the ground the same day ; not spoken her yet. This morning the duplicate cable failed 41 miles from Banjoewanjie; ship evidently gone through the new cable while grappling. It is possible she has the Banjoewanjie e 7 " 1 on board.'"
