Thames. Friday. In order to settle the vexed question as to whether a fluke is a flounder, and whether the former spawn before attaining the length of nine inches, Mr. F. C. Dean today forwarded to Wellington, at the request of the Minister of Mines, two dabs or flukes inches in length, preserved in spirits of wine. Constable Bern effected a smart capture of nine brace of ducks this evening from a man named Harry Kemp, who had just arrived from Miranda. Kemp will probably be charged to-morrow with shooting the same out of season. °

[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday. Lieutenant Lodder, of the Torpedo Corps, Wellington, has been transferred to Port Chalmers.

At the Supreme Court, an injunction was issued restraining the use of the drill hall at Masterton as a skating rink, it being found to be a nuisance to the neighbours. A slight shock of earthquake was felt at 10.15 last evening.

Blenheim, Friday. At the Police Court this afternoon, Alfred Hoeg, Albert, and Harry Luxton were committed for trial on a charge of conspiracy to obtain money by false pretences. Hogg is a resident of Nelson, and the other two men came- from New Plymouth. Until lately the three have been rabbiting for the factory, and one of them received an order on a firm in town, and by some means they managed to cash it twice. Hogg will be brought up to-morrow on another charge of obtaining money by false pretences. ■ A verdict of " Death from natural causes" was returned at the inquest on Annie Hammond, who was found dead in bed this morning. Christchukch, Friday. The committee of the Amateur Athletic Association have decided to postpone sine die for further consideration the proposition that the committee should have power to consider on its merits any application for reinstatement as an amateur.

It has been decided to hold a dog show here about the Metropolitan Show time, and to communicate with fanciers in all parts of the colony, asking their assistance. Dunedin, Friday. A plaintiff in an action against the assistant clerk in the Resident Magistrate's Court, for damages through a clerical error in filling up a summons, was non-suited, the Resident Magistrate remarking that it was ridiculous to suppose that assistantclerks could be called upon to pay damages for clerical errors.
