VVashington, September 17. Senatok Sherman's proposition to pro* mote an amicable settlement of the ex- , isting difficulties between the United States and Canada has been brought forward with a view of smoothing the way for the ultimate absorption of Canada by the United States.
Washington, September 19. m * Senator Sherman, in the course of his speech in moving the motion of which he gave notice a day or two ago, said America ought to make overtures to Canada for a, political and coinnierciaJ union with the United States.
