THE BANKRUPTCY OF R. STEVENSON.

ALLEGED MISDEMEANOUR.

AN INFORMATION TO BE LAID. A MEETING of the creditors of R. Stevenson was held at the Official Assignee's office on Saturday. The debtor and his solicitor were present, with the following creditors : Messrs. W. F. Buckland (A. Buckland), H. Brown (Brown, Barrett, and Co.), Colegrove (Nelson, Moate, and Co.), Brassey, and Kingswell (G. W. Binney). The creditors requested that the debtor and his solicitor retire from the room for a time, 1 and they did so. After a little discussion, j Mr. Buckland moved, "That the Official Assignee be instructed to lay an information against the bankrupt under the 163 rd section of the Bankruptcy Act, 1883, for a misdemeanour on the ground stated in subsection 9 of that section, j and such other grounds as in the opinion of the Official Assignee's solicitorwill support an information, the cost of such proceedings to be paid out of the estate." The motion was seconded by Mr. Brown. Mr. Brown moved, "That the bankrupt be brought up for public examination before the Court, with the view of asking the Judge to exercise Che summary jurisdiction conferred on him by section 171 of the said Act." Mr. Colegrove seconded this motion. The Official Assignee called the bankrupt and his solicitor into the room, and read the two motions, which were both passed by the creditors. The solicitor for the debtor entered a protest, as he thought it unfair to the bankrupt that the discussion should take place in his absence. He made an application for subsistence money for his client, but the creditors did not agree to the request.
