CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS.
The nominations of candidates for the various wards of the city, vacated by the retirement of a councillor from each ward, will be received up to noon to-day, at the various places in the wards indicated by Mr. Brooking, the Returning Officer. Mr. Phillipps, of Grafton Ward, does not, we understand, seek re-election. There will be i contest in Karangahape Ward, where Mr. Young Warren will oppose Mr. H. Gnrratt, the retiring candidate; and in East Ward Mr. Ellingham opposes Mr. John Grey, the present member, who was elected only a month ago to till the vacancy caused bv the retirement of Mr. Kidd. We believe the candidates for the other wards will be the retiring members, and so far we have not heard of any opposition to them. There may, however, be new candidates (luring the forenoon.
